We are the Gay & Lesbian Advocates and Defenders. You may know us through our fights for full LGBT equality through the DOMA, Goodrich v DPH (MA Marriage Equality) or Bragdon v Abbott cases. Though we started our HIV/AIDS Law Project in 1984, this is our first foray into the tumblr world. Check us out for updates regarding HIV/AIDS news and POZitive Living. Feel free to submit your own photos of your POZitive life. If you have legal questions or inquiries please see our HIV/AIDS Law Project https://www.glad.org/work/initiatives/c/aids-law-project or call our Legal InfoLine at 1-800-455-GLAD (4523) Monday-Friday 1:30-4:30pm Hablemos Espanol.

Our Mission

Founded in 1978, Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) is New England’s leading legal rights organization dedicated to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation, HIV status and gender identity and expression.

GLAD’s Commitment

Civil rights have never been easy to win. Fighting for them takes passion, skill and an absolute determination to prevail. That’s what GLAD delivers every single day.

GLAD’s bold and effective advocacy has achieved scores of precedent-setting legal victories to end discrimination based on sexual orientation, HIV status and gender identity and expression, benefiting individuals, couples and families across New England and throughout the United States.

Each time GLAD argues a case or tackles an issue, we tear down more of the outdated laws and stereotypes that have denied LGBT people and people with HIV basic protections and opportunities in every area of daily life – family, school, employment, housing, government, health care, and beyond.

Whether it’s marriage for same-sex couples, non-discrimination policies for transgender people in the workplace, or protections for people with HIV, GLAD doesn’t shrink from tough issues. And we don’t compromise on our belief that every citizen deserves full equality under the law – without exception.

“Art should be something that liberates your soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further.”
Keith Haring (born May 4) was a street artist, activist, teacher, pop culture sensation, openly HIV+, passionate, funny and sexy man with a heart as big as some of his projects.  He was (and will always be) one of my biggest star crushes.  His dancing figures made me happy.  His AIDS art helped me find a voice to articulate my fear and anger.  His death from AIDS just weeks before his 32nd birtday saddens me still.
Watch the documentary The World of Keith Haring and read the Keith Haring Journals.

intriguing infographic on AIDS and Christianity in Africa. Love to see some data though and whether we’re talking HIV, AIDS or both? It’s also important to note what sects of Christianity we’re pointing out and their respective sexual education and safe(r) sex policies.

Beyond the Quo: Cre8Elephant Removal Required: An amazing concept!
In order to begin eliminating stigma and raise awareness around HIV/AIDS and the advancements that have been made, we need to remove the elephant in the room and have open and honest conversations. Elephant removal is required for us to move forward. Have a discussion with someone today about HIV, you just might learn something!
